Thudarum Movie Review: Don’t Miss Mohanlal Character

thudarum movie review mohanlal

Thudarum Movie Review: Mohanlal is excellent in this good movie, even though it has a few small problems. ‘Thudarum’ will please fans who love to see all the different sides of him, from his funny moments to his emotional ones. This role feels more like the classic, beloved Mohanlal of earlier times.

How Does The Thudarum Movie Feel At The Beginning?

The Thudarum movie slowly shows its true story, like a wild animal taking its time. At the start, it feels calm and normal with everyday events and light jokes. The change happens little by little as Benz’ Shanmugham (Mohanlal) tries to get his old car back after the police unfairly took it. During a nighttime drive in the hills, you can feel the stress building. The movie continues this way, and we also see Shanmugham’s deep feelings for his car, a former stunt master, and his family.

After ‘Operation Java’ and ‘Saudi Vellakka’, Tharun Moorthy showed he’s a director to watch. People wondered how he’d direct a big star. He mostly finds the right balance, giving fans exciting moments without changing his storytelling too much. Thanks to a strong story by K.R.Sunil, Tharun understands how to make a good mainstream drama. A natural disaster is cleverly included in the story and becomes a crucial part of a big reveal.

Just like devoted fans who keep tuning in to watch their consistently losing team, always holding onto that sliver of hope for an unexpected victory in the next match, Mohanlal’s admirers have also been patiently waiting. This anticipation for a true return to form has stretched out over a considerable period. While there have been moments in some of his more recent films that offered tantalizing glimpses, like echoes of the captivating performances that defined his earlier career, the consistent magic they yearn for has remained somewhat elusive.

What Kind Of Roles Does Mohanlal Play In Thudarum Movie?

For his fans, ‘Thudarum’ brings back Mohanlal as they love to see him – showing all his different sides, from funny to serious. This role feels more like the classic Mohanlal they remember from his best days. The movie reminds us that actors like him need good writers – something Malayalam cinema had many of during his prime – more than just big money and lots of hype. The funny way the movie jokes about his recent unsuccessful films seems like a nice bonus.

Lately, many mainstream movies haven’t had a strong villain with good dialogue and a believable history, which has been disappointing. But in this film, there’s a character who feels like the hero’s equal. This person constantly challenges the hero, making the fight seem really tough. This strong opposing force helps ‘Thudarum,’ even when the story becomes a typical revenge plot towards the end.

You might hope for some clever twists in the revenge part, instead of just straightforward action. However, the fact that Shanmugham used to be a stunt choreographer does explain why he acts this way. So, the most exciting part of the movie is still the point right before the break. The movie doesn’t quite reach that same level of excitement in the end.

The scenes showing police being violent, especially towards women and children, feel unnecessary because they don’t really add much to the story. Showing this violence in a symbolic way might have been better. Most of the actors who play smaller roles do a good job. However, Shobana’s character isn’t written very well, and she’s mostly in the background. On the other hand, Prakash Varma and Binu Pappu really shine in the interesting roles they have.

Even though Thudarum movie has some small issues, it’s still a well-made movie with the right emotional moments. The title, which means ‘to be continued’ and shows up after the actor’s name at the end, might suggest that there’s still a lot more for this actor to show us. You can watch this Thudarum movie in theaters now.
